How to Build Your WordPress Author Platform From the Ground Up

Take control of your career and learn how to manage a simple WordPress website and blog then turn it into a successful self-managed powerhouse for your author business. Learn via easy walkthrough videos as Lana builds an author website before your eyes, and talks about content creation, e-commerce, traffic acquirement and more.
Downloadable PDFs and worksheets will be available so you can revise at your leisure. Whether you’re a digital immigrant or an author just wanting the latest hot tips on WordPress, you can get the author targeted advice from the current RWA Webmistress Lana Pecherczyk. Each student must be prepared to either set up a free WordPress.org account, or purchase a domain and hosting (explained how to inside the course).
Lana will be using the OWL Moodle platform which includes a private course forum and discussion centre. Course support will run for the duration of the four weeks and includes chat room presence for Q&A. Lesson material includes walkthrough videos and checklists to download. There will be one lesson each week, but students can move at a faster pace if they require.
Week 1. Introduction & Setup: Why build an author website? What is WordPress. Planning. Signup for WordPress.
Week 2. Choosing a theme. Site structure. Homepage or blog. Customising theme.
Week 3. Creating content and media. Blogging ideas and how to.
Week 4. SEO. Plug ins. Marketing and getting your website found. Convenience & User testing. Linking up your social media and e-newsletter.
About the presenter
Lana Pecherczyk is your friendly neighbourhood RWA webmistress and VP extraordinaire. She also has fifteen years experience in marketing, web & graphic design. When she’s not writing, she’s volunteers for RWA, is a tee-ball coach and mother to two little firecrackers.
