Whether you’re a new member to Romance Writers of Australia or a seasoned member who’s recently become published, you may be wondering what RWA offers published authors. Below is a list of all the services that RWA provides for published authors to ensure that you are supported all the way through your writing career.

Being a writer can be lonely work, but becoming an RWA member means you become part of a warm and welcoming community. As well as annual events and general interest email groups, as a published author you can access a group that’s just for published authors for the purpose of networking and discussing industry issues.

Professional Development Opportunities

RWA offers a number of professional development opportunities for the emerging or established author, including the Critique Partner scheme, annual national conference and Online Workshops List (OWLs). (As a published author, you may also like to deliver a workshop and receive a fee for doing so.)

Each year RWA runs a number of contests designed to motivate authors and assist in their development. Our biggest award is the Ruby (Romantic Book of the Year), which is run for commercially available works, and is reader-judged.

For emerging authors with a works that is not commercially available, there’s the Emerald (reader-judged, for emerging authors), Little Gems and Spicy Bites (annual short story competitions), and Selling Submission (a competition that judges the quality of your all-important synopsis, for emerging authors).

Got a new book coming out? Want to raise your profile? RWA offers a number of free promotional channels. eLoops: promote to fellow authors and romance readers on the RomAus loop, or on special interest loops. You may also like to join the emerging or established authors loop.
