RWA President

Romance Writers of Australia elects its executive committee annually.

2011/12, RWA President, Rachel Bailey, is a USA Today bestselling author for Harlequin Desire. Prior to becoming an author, she received a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Social Work, and worked in a variety of settings including youth work and hospital social work. She lives in Queensland, among the trees, with her own personal hero and four dogs.

History

The Romance Writers of Australia Inc formed in 1991 to promote romance writing in Australia and to help aspiring authors achieve publishing success. Back then, just eight writers banded together to find fellowship, professional development and to advance their careers.

Today our 700+ membership is not only Australia-wide, but includes writers from New Zealand, Singapore, the United States, the United Kingdom and Europe.

RWA Australia has become internationally recognised and respected by both category and mainstream publishers of romance - including such high profile houses as Harlequin Enterprises, Kensington, Avon Books, HarperCollins, and Random House.

RWA Australia's mission today is the same as it was back in 1991: to promote excellence in romantic fiction; to help aspiring writers become published and published authors to maintain and establish their careers; and to provide continuing support for romance writers—whatever their genre—within the romance publishing industry.

Communities in Crisis Book Appeal (2011)

RWA Australia fundraises every year for charities related to issues affecting women’s health, literacy or well-being. In 2011 immediately following the floods that devastated much of Queensland and parts of Victoria and NSW (and subsequently Cyclone Yasi), RWA launched its Communities in Crisis Book Appeal, collecting thousands of books from donors all over the country and ensuring they made it to the families and libraries in need.

Books don’t do well in floods and beloved collections are sorely missed by those who spent a lifetime building them up.

RWA is doing its bit to make sure every family has some books waiting as soon as they have a bookshelf to put them on.

Donations accepted Australia wide. Email: info@romanceaustralia.com with details
