Kiss and Tell | Jayne Kingsley

In Creative Writing, Guest Articles, Interview by RWA Blog Coordinator2 Comments

Award-winning author, Jayne Kingsley, writes contemporary romance that’ll make you smile. The beautiful gowns and designer couture that weave their way between the pages are almost as strong as the royal characters and the charming settings, showcasing the author’s love of fashion and textiles.

Her Convenient Playboy Prince by Jayne Kingsley

Jayne’s new release Her Convenient Playboy Prince takes readers back to the fictional European country of Stenaco, and right into the hustle and bustle of the Stenish Royal Family. The second book in the series, Her Convenient Playboy Prince focusses on Prince Felix, and the woman who’s held his heart since he was sixteen, Lady Sophia Huntington. Sophia’s determined to pave a new life away from her domineering mother, while Felix is desperate to show Sophia that he’s left his playboy past behind him. Readers of Tailored for her Prince will be pleased to catch up with Crown Prince Henrik and his new bride, Princess Eva, and cheer for the reserved Sophia and cheeky Felix. A sweet, funny and well-paced romantic escape, I’m already looking forward to Jayne’s next novel, featuring the youngest royal, Princess Izzie, in July.

As well as writing and a background in merchandise planning, Jayne fills her creative well by combining a passion for art and fashion. She has an Etsy shop selling fashion illustration prints and her beautifully illustrated book reviews have touched many authors’ hearts (this one included!). Her debut novel recently won Favourite Short or Category Romance with the Australian Romance Readers Association. A mother of two young girls, Jayne also loves sewing and knitting, collects gorgeous heels and sparkly notebooks, and lives with her own real-life hero on the New South Wales coast.

Short and sweet questions

Current book on your bedside table: Claimed for the Billionaire’s Convenience by Melanie Milburne.

Where do you do most of your writing? Anywhere I can sit with my laptop.

Favourite Australian holiday destination: This is a tough one! I adore Hobart, but equally love Sawtell. Any of Australia’s wine country is also a winner.

What’s your preferred drop? Sparkling shiraz.

Guilty pleasure? Coffee in bed (this literally never happens anymore haha).

Pet peeve: People driving down the middle of the road in suburban areas.

Favourite fictional couple and why? You’re asking the tough ones lady! Laurel McBane and Delaney Brown from Savor the Moment. I love her strength and Del is just the older brother angle personified. Their chemistry and banter is addictive and well it’s a Nora book so that says a lot.

If you could pack two non-essential items for a deserted tropical island, what would they be? My laptop and water colour pencils/paper.

Name an emerging author to keep an eye out for: Davina Stone.

Established authors who inspire you? Clare Connelly, Annie West, Michelle Douglass, Ally Blake. How many am I allowed to write? ☺

Best thing about being a writer? Flexibility.

Worst thing about being a writer? Constant second guessing of myself.

Do you prefer music, podcasts or silence when writing? Music or silence. It depends on where I’m at in the book. I listen to amazon prime playlists or certain songs that I start to associate with a book.

Favourite perfume: Vera Wang.

TV/film crush: Chris Hemsworth.

The best non-writing related prize I won was…I won the Lion King tape when I was 10 from a colouring in contest. I watched that movie until the tape busted!

Top three tips for aspiring authors? Not sure I should be giving advice ☺ but I’d say find your tribe, understand that not everyone is going to love your work but that doesn’t mean it’s bad and you should give up, love what you write.

What theme do you hope shines through in your writing? Fairy tale love that will last a lifetime.

Proudest author moment? Winning the ARRA award for Favourite Short or Category Romance 2019 for my debut self-published title – I was gobsmacked!

My favourite thing about writing romance is …. Creating characters that find that one in a million love.

If anything gives me flack about writing romance, I tell them… I love my job, can you say the same?

Three fun facts about the author:

I own over a hundred pairs of heels but now mainly wear ugg boots

I love notebooks that sparkle

I have the best friends in the world – writer friends ☺

  1. Jayne, always so sparkly! And nobody mentioned yet that your romance novels have such witty one-liners. Fun, love, and haute couture … the royal romance trifecta.
