Talking in front of people, never mind presenting on stage, is one of the biggest fears we as human have. We have even gone to the extent of giving it a special name “Glossophobia”. For some people it is talking to one or two people, and for others it is talking to bigger groups. No matter your level of fear there are steps and actions you can take to manage this fear and help improve your presentation.
The Stage Craft Online Writing Lab (OWL) course is designed to give you a series of practical suggestions, tips and checklists that can be used to prepare you for public speaking and other presentations. This approach is aimed at reducing your fear of public speaking and consequently increasing your confident about being on stage, whether it be in front of one person or many people. Confidence is one of the keys to engaging an audience on stage in order to ensure your message is understood by the receiver. The Stage Craft OWL will include exercises that will take the concepts from a theoretical level to a practical level and will be applicable to many different speaking situations. Explanations will be provided on what is best practice and why certain practices may not be the ideal way to go about presenting. This will include personal stories and experiences I have gained during my time on stage.
Topics that will be covered include suggestions on dress, jewellery selection, working with a microphone and other props, presenting with notes, effective PowerPoints slides, stage setup and other steps that can be taken to work towards reducing audience distractions. When a presenter is able to decrease their anxiety about presenting it allows them to concentrate on the presentation. This provides the benefit of engaging the audience at a higher level, consequently allowing their message to be received and understood more effectively by the audience.
I look forward to working with you.
