Jodi's Favourite Comfort Read
As the weather cools and the days close in, I find myself moving inside and hunkering down. And there’s no better way to do so than with a good book and a warm, comfy place in which to read.
My favourite cosy spot is the corner of my couch. It’s the perfect position complete with soft cushions, my favourite knitted blanket and a lamp to throw soft light while I read. I can see the flames from the gas log fire which always makes me feel toasty warm, and I’m usually joined by a fur baby - or three!
If I were to choose one book as my favourite comfort read, it wouldn’t be an easy decision. There’s always Jo Jo Moyes Me Before You to give those warm, fuzzy feels, and I love being swept back to the roaring 20s (the 1920s that is!) with Natasha Lester’s A Kiss from Mr. Fitzgerald. But, I do always find myself pulling out the ever-reliable Aussie author Lisa Heidke as my go-to comfort author.
Lisa has a knack of writing stories that take you on an emotional journey with characters that are both likeable and relatable. My all-time favourite of Lisa’s novels - which gets a read at least once a year hence the creased cover and well-thumbed pages - is Claudia’s Big Break. The book takes you on a romp to the Greek Island of Santorini with Claudia and her two best friends as each of them try and figure out their messy lives. Fun, frivolity and hijinks, of course, ensue. At its heart, it’s a story of friendship with a healthy dose of laughs, mayhem and romance. The perfect comfort read!
