Unfolding the Pages of Romance: Our Enchanting Events Await

There’s nothing more inspiring than spending time with other writers and at Romance Writers of Australia, we love to connect in person and online at every opportunity. Our dedicated Events Manager and her team of state volunteers are passionate about providing opportunities for networking, learning and advocating for our genre.  The annual conference – held each year in a different city – is like Christmas for romance writers, but we also hold write-ins, social gatherings, panels and more throughout the year giving members the chance to connect with writers close to them geographically. Whether you’re just starting out on your writing journey, have a few books to your name or have been penning bestsellers for decades, you’ll find yourself at home with us. Check out our upcoming events below.

Conferences

Imagine hundreds of romance writers, publishers, agents and booklovers together in one place to celebrate our genre, meet industry professionals, network with fellow authors, and learn about the business and craft of writing! No need to imagine, our annual conference provides all this and more over three jam-packed days. In addition to our workshops and panels, delegates have the opportunity to pitch to publishers and agents, mingle and meet new and old friends at our famous cocktail costume party, and celebrate the achievements of our members at our annual gala dinner awards night.

Our 2026 conference (theme: Romance Queens of the Desert) will be held at the Darwin Convention Center from 21 - 23 August 2026.

Set on the stunning Darwin Waterfront, the Darwin Convention Centre is a world-class venue offering state-of-the-art facilities with a distinctive tropical flair. Just moments from the city centre and surrounded by restaurants, hotels, and lush parklands, it’s the perfect place to meet, learn, and connect. Between sessions, take in breathtaking harbour views, explore the vibrant local markets, or immerse yourself in the Northern Territory’s rich cultural experiences. With year-round warm weather, a relaxed atmosphere, and access to unique pre- and post-conference tours – from Kakadu National Park to Litchfield’s waterfalls – your time in Darwin will be as inspiring as it is productive.
