Comfort Reads with Ava January

Can you feel it? Winter is only a fortnight away and the temperature has dropped - if you are living in more temperate areas of the world that is. But if you live in a more tropical setting though, winter is a little different! Cosy is still cosy though! Welcome to historical romance author Ava January who comes from sunny Queensland and today shares with us her version of a cosy winter!

Brisbane City winter skyline

Winter doesn’t do much here in Brisbane, other than colour the sky pink and tint our sunshine a certain type of gold. There’s a chill in the air that whispers of the cold, damp mornings in other places of Australia, but for the most part, we remain blissfully untouched.

Nevertheless, we bring out long-sleeved t-shirts and snuggle under an open weave blanket to enjoy our ‘winter’ comforts and there is nothing I like more than curling up in the window seat in my bedroom, overlooking the hardy Australian bush beyond.

While the trees begin to drop their leaves and prepare for a brief sleep I love rereading an old favourite like The Shifting Fog by Kate Morton.

Kate Morton writes evocative, moving stories that examine the highs and lows of loving relationships; sisters, mothers, lovers and even when you know how the book ends, there’s always a little nugget of truth to discover in each reading. The Shifting Fog has all the elements of my favourite books, Edwardian setting, sisters, forbidden love and mystery.

About The Lady Detective

The Lady Detective by Ava January

London's lawbreakers and loathsome lords… beware!

How does a wealthy widow avoid the marriage market in 1890s London?

If you're Lady Theodosia Fortescue-Brown, you hide behind outrageously bad clothing and glasses you don't need.

After the disappearance of her husband, Theodosia can't imagine giving up her freedom to marry again and relishes her role as detective to the ladies of the upper echelons of society.

When a priceless necklace on loan from the Royal family is stolen, Theodosia must work with the scandalous Lord Montague to recover it before the theft is discovered.

But somewhere between setting a brothel on fire, being knocked out in a cemetery in the middle of the night, and narrowly avoiding death via Scotch egg, Theodosia and William fall in love…

You can purchase The Lady Detective on Amazon and other online bookstores.
