Here we are smack bang in the middle of winter! Whilst we rug up and snuggle down next to a fire with a warm drink there is only one way to spend the cold days and nights – with a book! Welcome to romantic suspense author D.D. Line. You might be more familiar with D.D.Line as Danielle our wonderful aspiring ambassador (and Lynne Wilding recipient). Welcome to Dannielle and to her sizzling comfort read!

Here we are in the middle of winter. My oldest is turning twenty-one, I’m wondering where all the time has gone, and I’m hiding from all things ageing in books.

When asked to explain my favourite genre/s, I often mention I believed I was a horror writer first. It’s just that my characters kept wanting to do that ‘kissing stuff.’ That’s when I had to admit I was a romance writer too. Now, not everyone considers darker stories comfort reading, so I chose a series from another genre I fell in love with a few years ago. While I love all the books, this one, especially the male character, is a firm (pun so intended) favourite that’s a must-read whenever I want to escape from reality.

From Carolyn Wren’s Love Under Fire series, her second book, Passion in Flames, had me enraptured from start to finish.

Passion in Flames by Caroline Wren

Simon Winters has a reputation for undertaking adrenalin-filled assignments. But even thrill-seekers need some downtime. After an arduous desert mission, he asks for a more enjoyable assignment. Preferably involving a beautiful woman and a fast car.

Dr Elizabeth Barrett’s life was peaceful and methodical until someone tried to burn down her research laboratory with her inside. Now she has to contend with a handsome, flirtatious agent who has an annoying habit of putting her in more perilous situations than he keeps her out of.

The danger escalates as a straightforward mission turns deadly. Someone wants Beth and her research dead.

Will the charismatic agent and his sexy scientist escape with their hearts, and their lives, intact?

I love this ‘not-so opposites attract’ story. While Simon’s laid back, debonair, and smoother than James Bond on his best day, he’s all business when it comes to work. Beth loves nothing more than to be involved with her work. She spends her days (and most of her nights) staring into her microscope, but she’s discovering she has a passion for a little danger.

Simon’s never met a woman he couldn’t catch, but the urge to chase the next thrill vanishes when he’s asked to protect a sexy biologist who resists his every signature move. Doctor Elizabeth Barrett is used to dealing with problems on a micro-level, but when a giant-sized problem disrupts her quiet, structured life under the guise of protecting her, ‘complicated’ takes on a new meaning.

Simon’s flirting had me grinning the entire way through because I knew when he fell in love, he was going to fall hard. Beth’s reactions to his romantic onslaught amid danger, disaster, and doubt were perfect.

If you love sexy heroes, smart, sassy heroines, humorous moments, and adventures that belong in the ‘007’ Hall of Fame, you’ll fall for all the heroes in this series. Just know that as far as book boyfriends go, Simon is all mine.

About An Ear to the Ground

Because we’re in the romantic suspense genre, I’d love to share my latest release with you. An Ear to the Ground is the second in my Trinket Bay romantic suspense series due out July 30th.

An Ear to the Ground by D.D. Line

When murder and love collide, does duty trump one’s heart?

Lilah Michaels remembers little of her mother’s suicide following a violent assault during a robbery at their home over twenty years ago. But it’s the only home she’s ever known. Now they’re in danger of losing the family property, and she’s pinned her hopes on hosting weddings at the winery to appease the bank and buy them some time. Until a shocking discovery changes everything.

Sergeant Finn Kelly desperately needs a break after a tough assignment. All he wants is to catch up with his friends in Trinket Bay as they prepare for their wedding. At Hidden Gem Winery, he finds a yearned-for sense of peace. Then he meets the charming woman who’s hosting the nuptials, and his thoughts turn toward romance.

Finn puts those amorous notions on hold when he and his service dog find human remains on the property. Painful memories and an unsolved mystery come to light. It’s clear someone wants to keep the past a secret, and they’ll do anything to make sure the truth stays buried.

Is Lilah as innocent as she seems? Or is she part of the conspiracy? And will Finn lose more than his heart in his quest to discover the truth?

An Ear to the Ground is a contemporary romantic suspense novel set in the fictional town of Trinket Bay in South Western Australia.
