Another speedy month has driven past and here we are already well into March. I was excited to see our Member’s New Releases and, as always, they did not disappoint.
This month we have a feast for the senses. A visual cornucopia of romantic elements that draw the eye and capture the imagination. Nearly every corner of our wide breadth of sub-genres is captured in this month’s new releases, and I won’t deny that the choice for the Cover Crush this month was a hard one.
A simple a cover is often overlooked. The ability to layer the jacket with visual representations of the story beneath, to add teasers and snippets, awards and subtitles can be a tempting one. These elements often enhance, but sometimes, they can distract from the essence of what makes a cover brilliant.
So, this month, we welcome Cassie Hamer with her book After the Party published by Harlequin Australia to the Cover Crush family. This cover is all about simplicity. It’s all about minimalism. A simple image that says so much with nothing more than a squashed cupcake. But the colour pops, the solitary imagery is almost austere, yet it is one of intrigue, a level of suspense shown with merely an extinguished candle and the single teasing sentence is a tie in to what can be found when you turn the first page. It’s a brilliant example of saying more with less.
Well done Cassie and Harlequin Australia and welcome to the Cover Crush family.
If RWA members would like to get their covers into Heart’s Talk, just log into your account on the RWA website and upload your image before the 8th of each month.
