About the workshop:
Disheartened with querying agents and publishers?
Want an injection of mojo to keep going?
Maybe you’re considering pitching at Darwin at the conference, but are daunted by
query letters and the whole process.

Fear not: Anna Cowan is here to share her journey.
Anna spent a year querying agents, receiving 83 rejections of her queer historical
romance novel before landing her dream agent, Kate McKean at Howard Morhaim
Literary and sold her book The Duke to St Martin's Press, NY.
romance novel before landing her dream agent, Kate McKean at Howard Morhaim
Literary and sold her book The Duke to St Martin's Press, NY.
How did she keep going beyond 82 rejections? How did she find a good fit for an
agent, as well as for her stories?
The Duke launched in April this year and the Academy invites you to join Anna to
hear how she went from query to rejection to launch.
Anna will guide participants through what makes a great query letter - and what
doesn't. She will cover the best techniques for finding agents to query and then the
query process itself, going through the specific websites that agents and authors can
use to manage and track queries. Anna’s experience with The Duke spotlights how
queer romance stories are being sold and marketed by traditional publishers. There
will be time for participants to ask questions throughout the workshop.
