Author Melanie Milburne

How did you discover you wanted to be a writer?

I wanted to be a writer from the age of five. I was fascinated by stories, both reading and writing them. I always got excited when there was a creative writing lesson at school. I never had any trouble thinking of things to write about. And I’m happy to report that even after all these years later, that hasn’t changed.

What did you do to actively pursue writing? (Joining RWAus, Mentorship etc)

I actively pursued writing by writing manuscript after manuscript, then I discovered RWA and joined. I am quite sure I would not be a published romance author today without the help and encouragement from RWA members and the wonderful conferences and workshops that guided me along the way to publication.

What do you find are the advantages of being part of RWAus?

It is good to be part of a writers’ organisation, even for an established author, because they keep you up to date on what’s happening in the market and in publishing. Plus, the contact with other writers, no matter what stage of their career, is invaluable.

What is your favourite genre and why?

My favourite genre of writing is romance but I also like crime fiction and memoirs. I find people’s lives so fascinating. When I think of the above three genres, they have satisfying endings. In romance, the couple end up together, in crime fiction the killer is found and brought to justice and in memoir the writer is usually reflecting on their life and is almost always in a better place than previously.

Share a little about your writing process?

My writing process has been seriously disrupted by some spinal issues this past year. But I’m slowly getting back to work with my new and intensely frustrating limitations!

Tell us about your current book…

My current work in progress is a story about the godparents of a tearaway toddler who have to look after her as her parents are stranded abroad after a severe weather event. The virginal heroine has had a crush on the playboy hero from the moment she met him.

And my latest book by Harlequin Presents is:

One Night in My Rival’s Bed is about two business rivals who feel they have to do everything in their power to stop their disabled siblings from rushing into marriage. But of course, they end up falling in love with each other!

One Night in My Rival’s Bed

He’s forbidden to me.

So why can’t I resist him?

Grayson Barlowe has always been my enemy. We were taught by our warring families to compete on the business battlefield. But everything changes when we’re forced to work together!

I have never been immune to his devilish good looks. But as I learn about the pain that Grayson keeps hidden from the world, it becomes obvious he’s not just a playboy. Yet a truce seems impossible, until I find myself in the place I vowed I’d never be: between my enemy’s sheets!
